Lunch in the Sukkah

We have a birthday party for Shmuli each year in the Sukkah, as he was born during Sukkos. The Jacobs extended family arrives, and we have lunch and a visit in the Sukkah. The kids started up a game of soccer, and the twins looked around at all the visual stimulation around them. And the adults got a chance to chat and catch up. Then it was time for Shmuli to have a birthday cake and be serenaded with the unforgettable Happy Birthday song.

Here is the Jacobs family eating in the Sukkah. Shmuli and Robert did such a great job setting it up and decorating it! Posted by Picasa

Time to Build the Sukkah

One of the highlights of the year for our family is Sukkos. The project of building the Sukkah is the first task on hand, which entails erecting a temporary dwelling to dine on during the days of Sukkos. As we dine each meal in the Sukkah we are reminded of how our ancestors also dined in their temporary dwellings as they traveled to Jerusalem. The dwelling must be covered with natural plant material such as palm fronds... but the covering must not be so complete as to prevent the occupants from seeing the stars up above at night. Inside the sukkah is decorated with pictures and crafts- many which were made by Shmuli.

Here is Michael at 11 months- we can't see his teeth in this picture, but trust me, there are (almost!) eight of them. Posted by Picasa

Natan at 11 months. He is showing us his teeth today (which is rare, as he is very shy about people seeing inside his mouth). What nice pearly whites! Posted by Picasa

A Visitor from the East Coast

What a wonderful surprise to get a phone call from Liz that she was going to be in Los Angeles for a couple of days and wanted to visit. We had such an enjoyable time catching up and hearing how Rick, Dan and Julianna were doing. And of course, we decided that we really needed a full get-together this summer!

A visit from Liz! It was a nice treat to have a chance to chat and catch up. Posted by Picasa
