More Shots for the Twins Today

Today was the day for the twins monthly Synigis shot (to prevent RSV). They had a total of three shots each, and as always objected vigorously to the entire process.

They are also growing nicely. They are both 25.3" long, and their heads are about the same size (Natan's is 42.7cm and Michael's is 42.5cm.) Both boys are in the 50th percentile for their ages- but would be in the 80th or 90th if it was based on their "corrected age" (this term is used for preemies when referring to age based on the original due date). The main difference between the boys is their weights- Michael weighs 16 lbs. 6 oz. and Natan weighs 17 lbs. 6 oz. Both boys are quite substantial in weight, with Michael in the 70th percentile, and Natan in the 80th percentile (I think they would be off the charts for weight based on their corrected age). Overall they are doing terrific, and hardly seem like they were little preemies a few months ago.

Look at the bandaids from the shots! Ouch! (Natan looks much bigger than Michael in this picture, but the size difference is mostly camera angle. They are both about the same length and have the same size head- they only real difference in size is weight- with "guess who" weighing a bit more than his brother!) Posted by Hello

Shmuli's Soccer Season Ends

Today was the last day of soccer for Shmuli. All the boys on the team have worked so hard this season, and they are learning to work together as a team. After the game each boy was awarded a trophy, and Shmuli was so delighted to receive his. Now, we look forward to the upcoming baseball season.

I have also posted a recent family portrait. I had to chuckle when I saw the picture, as I could clearly see that at the time the picture was taken, both Robert and I look quite exhausted! We feel so fortunate now that the twins are sleeping better- we are finally getting a tolerable level of sleep.

Now that the twins are sleeping pretty well through the night, and have made their own schedule, I am trying to help them establish a daytime nap routine. I am keeping track of when they fall asleep as well as when they wake up. I am hoping to find a pattern, and see if we can make the days a little more predictable. One thing is for sure- they certainly look adorable when they are sleeping, I must say!!!

Shmuli looks very happy in this picture, because he is playing goalie, which is his favorite position in soccer. Posted by Hello

Here we all are, a few weeks ago. As you can see, Robert and I look a bit tired- this is when the twins were still waking up every hour or two during the night.  Posted by Hello

Busy Floor Play for the Twins

Michael and Natan are starting to have some extended periods when they are active and alert. We are finding ways to keep them busy, as they tend to complain a bit when they are bored. One of their favorite pastimes is to bat at the toys on their playmats. Another is to listen to singing. The singing becomes an even greater hit when there are hand signals to go with the song- making the "top hits" songs such as Wheels on the Bus, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Where is Thumpkin, Itsy Bitsy Spider and Head, Shoulder, Knees and Toes.

The boys are also sleeping better. They freqently are asleep for the night by 6:00 pm, only wake up for one night feeding, at about 1:00 and an early morning one at 5:00. The daytime naps are still a bit erratic, and we expect them to remain that way until they are a little older

Here are the Jacobs Boys, having a little fun together! Posted by Hello

Michael and Natan are 4 Months Old!

It is hard to believe that the boys are getting so big! Lately, we have noticed that when we help them sit up (by gently pulling their arms forward to a sitting position when they are laying down) they are straightening their legs, and suddenly end up in a standing position. It is so cute!

Shmuli has been busy for the last few weeks. His soccer season has been going great, and Shmuli has been a real asset to his team. He has scored several goals, but more important- he has become a team player. He is now seeing the value of passing the ball to teammates and working together to score goals instead of dominating the ball. We are so proud of him.

Here we are, sitting up in a nice comfortable chair. Our necks are getting so strong, that we rarely tip over when we are sitting now. Posted by Hello

Natan Slept Through the Night!

For the first time, Natan slept through the night, and didn't wake up until 5:00 am. Both boys are starting to sleep better, and typically wake up at 1:00 am hungry, and then go back to sleep until 5:00. Interestingly, even though they sleep in separate rooms and don't hear each other, they are both pretty much on the same schedule. I guess it is an example of the "twin" connection...
