A Great Day for the Twins

Today was a great day for the boys. Twin B is now breathing completely on his own. Sometimes his breathing is a little fast, so they are keeping an eye on it, but they are really pleased with his progress. He was moved from the high level NICU room to the standard NICU room, and has been quite stable. He continues to be feeding well (via tube), and they keep increasing his feeds. They continue to check him for jaundice, but so far they feel he is ok- it is up a little, but they think it might start declining on its own. Otherwise, he will spend a little time under the bililight. He is quite an active boy, and pulled out his feeding tube today.

I was able to hold Twin B for the first time today, and it certainly was a pleasure. Of course, I also held Twin A. I was telling the nurses that I would love to spend all my time just sitting there and holding them. It is so wonderful.

Twin A also reached a milestone today- he drank 18cc from a bottle! Right now they are alternating feeding him through the tube (which is called gavage feeding) and feeding him with the bottle. His bilirubin count was up a bit today, and the doctor decided to put him under the bililight. It is interesting, in that his count is actually lower then Twin B's, but each boy has a different doctor, and they have their own protocols. It is pretty much expected for premature babies to go under the bililight for a little while. He also had a little apnea, so they are giving him some caffeine, which has really done the trick! What a simple solution!

Shmuli is doing great- he has been so understanding of our somewhat chaotic schedule. We are so proud of him and know that his little brothers will certainly be looking up to him. We just signed him up for soccer league in January, so his brothers will be able to watch him in action!
